A story of my practice

I’ve always loved movement: Expressing myself through movement and social movements. While I was studying sociology in California I took a yoga class hoping to learn more about ahimsa as I was intrigued by this practice of disrupting harm. The journey to find out more about ahimsa and learn about Yoga was one full of interpretations, contradictions, and a lot of confusion. Thankfully I love the depths of a messy rabbit hole and did enjoy learning how to create some really cool shapes so I continued the journey.

Sociology taught me how to see the world through the lens of social justice, the ability to question social constructs and systems of oppression, but not how to hold those very uncomfortable truths. I would get stuck in the muck of it. At this time yoga class and many teacher trainings were an outlet for me, but it felt like I was missing important pieces of Yoga. I came across Dr. Ranganathan’s book Yoga Anticolonial Philosophy and found the missing pieces, the indigenous pieces that got trampled on by colonization, and started studying Yoga philosophy. I choose Yoga as my way of life and I practice thinking clearly not clearing my mind, exploring the options beyond what is available, not defining myself by experiences or belief systems I didn’t choose. I focus on my agency, on choosing responsibly and owning those choices.

I've dedicated myself to creating a self-exploratory space where I share the Yoga philosophy I practice in my daily life as well as creative flows, and unconventional movement. My journey has also taught me to be my quirky self and prioritize fun and play so don’t be surprised if we get a little weird or laugh our way through class.

A few of my favorite things: Enjoying the outdoors, especially the beach and forest, working in the garden or refurbishing furniture with my love, sharing my home with 4 cats, reading and book clubs with super juicy conversations, storytelling, writing, traveling, laughing till I cry with my sisters and watching my little nephew explore the world with his brand new eyes.
